Santa Paula No Salt Seasoning #89

A lot has been going on and I will be away for a few months so I figured I might as well post a few things before I go.

So this past week, I had a gentleman email me regarding Santa Paula No Salt Seasoning #89...which is my all-time-favorite-can't-be-beat No Salt Seasoning. And what's even more bizarre about this seasoning is that YOU CANNOT FIND ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IT ANYWHERE ON THE WEB! As a matter of fact, the gentleman that contacted me, said that MY BLOG of all things was the first thing to pop up on Google when he searched it.

So I'm here to tell everyone 1) why this particular seasoning is the best and to anyone else that searches it and comes across my blog, and most importantly 2) where to purchase Santa Paula No Salt Seasoning #89.
(I will try to add a photo when I am not being so lazy)

Unlike any Mrs. Dash or any other No Salt Seasoning I have come across, the Santa Paula variety contains NO POWDERED ANYTHING....it is all little bits of spices, herbs, onion, garlic, etc with no salt. And it doesn't contain anything but natural spices and dried seasonings...it makes any pan seared meat taste delicious by the way...cooked in just a bit of butter and garlic, sprinkled with this mix and some pepper...YUM!

Okay so where to buy it? 99c Only Store baby. Now I don't mean any 99c or $1 store...it has to be THE "99c Only Store." You know the one in purple and green letters thats open "9 days a week from 9am to 9pm." Which, as I'm sure you've already deduced...it only costs 99c (and believe me I have tried more expensive varieties from a bunch of different places...up to $5 for a little bottle of what looked like good seasoning). My mother says I should be a spokesperson for the 99c Only Store...but I only promote them so much because they have good crap man and it's cheap as hell.

Which brings me to my next topic...Santa Paula Seasonings, in general.
Buy them...buy all of them!
At 99c each, you can have a pretty complete spice collection for around $15-$20! (Meaning 15-20 different spices, for those slow folk). Their "Fancy Garlic" is another favorite...a few tablespoons mixed with half a stick of room temp butter it makes a great garlic bread spread. Cut a loaf of french bread in half longways and spread on both sides. Yum.

So that's that.

  2. Have you been able to verify the ingredients? Does it have MSG or other preservatives?

  3. The label reads that the spices under the 'Santa Paula' name are distributed under the Momentum Brand, which has the same city and ZIP as the corporate offices for the 99cent chain (City of Commerce, CA 90023. So....I just emailed the 99cent chain corporate offices, asking them to email me where the spices are grown, packaged and if there are any preservatives added to the 'Santa Paula' line of spices. Cheers!-Dan

  4. I want to start a little website that just sells these .99 cent santa paula brand spices. I'll call it spicesr.us just for the people that don't have a .99 cent store near them. Only thing is they will have to pay $2.00 for them plus shipping. Cool idea??? Please let me know.

  5. Thanks for the post. I bought another Santa Paula seasoning called "Chef's Essence" but couldn't remember where I bought it. We're getting low and it is absolutely the best seasoning we own. We love it use it on so many things and I have been searching all of my usual grocers. Thanks I'll be on the hunt in the next few days. I would have never remembered where it came from.

  6. There must be a tremendous mark up in typical packaged spice and seasoning mixes such as Mrs. Dash or Benson's. At it's margins, 99c Store can't afford a loss leader, so even at its price 99c is making money. I am using the Santa Paula "Spicy Steak Seasoning" with great satisfaction. In fact, I found this site by googling "Momentum Brands" for info re: this product.

  7. Our favorite is Santa Paula Chicken and Seafood #33. You can buy it at the 99cent Only stores or Amazon.com or Ibuyherbs.com for $3.44-$3.50 plus shipping. It is delicious! It is great on everything but do not mix it with sour cream as the orange peel in it make the sour cream curdle. It is just wonderful on roasted potatoes! We have several of their other spices and like them also! You can't go wrong with Santa Paula Spices, esp. for 99cent Only! You can order it by the case of 48 from club 99, however they have a $50. min. It is sent to the nearest store to you and you have to go pick it up. It is on back order as we speak.
Enjoy! To see the roasted potato recipe, see Try This!!!! at trythis-cdavistx@blogspot.com.

  9. I have tried to find the Santa Paula Chicken and Seafood seasoning that I used to buy at the 99cent store only they don't carry it any longer. I have goggled it but come up with nothing except they had the steak seasoning at Amazon but they say that is no longer available. I'm so sad! None of the other chicken seasoning I have found comes close to the taste of Santa Paula Chicken seasoning!
